Comments for EU Research Skills

This class is aimed at improving our presentation and debate skills. Therefore although topics of this class are about the European Union, just attending this class without studying by yourself the assigned readings does not provide you any knowledge about the European Union. On the other hand, through a good research and preparation for the presentations and the debates you can get a good knowledge about the European Union as well as improve your presentation and debate skills in English. In this regard the EU Research Skills class is meaningful for you if you try hard. This is my comments and thank you for teaching, Mr. Ortolani. (Anonymous)

What I thought about the EU research skills class was that preparing for and doing presentations and debate every few weeks was a little bit hard for me, because my major is economics. However, it was so useful and well organized that I improved greatly my English and presentation skills. Teamwork to prepare for class was comparatively small, since we were divided into teams. Besides this, feedback for our presentations and debates by Prof. Ortolani was so useful for my future opportunities. Having chances to hear and speak English every week was also good. This is a class where you can learn policies and institutions of the EU, useful skills for presentations and improve your English. In the class, the professor attaches great importance to the communication with students and always encourages us to question and challenge new ideas, not only based on the reading materials. In a word, if you choose this class you would achieve “Three things at one stroke”. Best class ever. (Jian Wang)

I am very satisfied with the content of this class. The lecturer offered us not only the opportunity of giving presentations, but also explained some strategies for improving our presentation skills, e.g. through the analysis of the professional presentations such as those of TED. The lectures taught us to make good presentations with a clear logic, well-designed allocation of time, and good communication attitudes, without placing too much importance at the grammar (that we can learn outside of this class). Therefore, I think that this class was worth taking in my master’s degree program. The variety of majors in my classmates was also a good stimulus for me. (Anonymous)

Attending this class was a good experience. I improved my English skills through practice. Preparing the presentations for this class required hard work. Although I sometimes had troubles in following the class, I was lucky that my classmates, especially my teammates, helped me understand it. Since my major is not law but business, some themes were difficult for me to understand. But I learned a lot about EU from this class. Thank you for the opportunity to attend EU research skills. I will try to keep studying English and the EU.(pen name N.K)
